Mini-Lathe Replacement Gear Set

Here is a conversion tip from customer Corey Renner in California.

The non-Sieg machines have a 4mm key rather than 3mm, so people with these machines can either open up the keyway on the metal gears, or replace about $30 worth of parts from LMS and convert their machine to 3mm keyway change gears.  This is what I did since I had an incomplete set of 4mm key gears and I wanted to be able to share gears between my two machines. Here are the parts to replace to switch from 4mm keyways to 3mm keyways on the minilathe.  Part #'s and prices from LMS.

lastly, you need to file the 4mm key that fits in the gearbox end of the leadscrew.  You want its base to remain 4mm, but the top of it needs to be narrowed to 3mm.  It takes about 5 minutes with a file.

 Note: THMS has noticed some keyways on some gears may be undersized. Slight rework with a file may be necessary for exact fit
